UNIVERSIDAD POLITECNICA DE MADRID (SPAIN)

Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) is the oldest and largest Spanish technical University, with more than 4.000 faculty members, around 48.000 undergraduate students and 6.000 postgraduates in 21 Schools of study. UPM’s Schools cover most of engineering disciplines, including Aeronautical. UPM, as a top quality academic establishment, has a strong commitment to R&D and Innovation. It boasts over 200 Research Units and several Research Institutes and Technological Centres. On 17thJuly 2019, UPM obtained the 'HR Excellence in Research Award' within the European Commission Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R) initiative to recognize institutions which make progress in aligning their human resources policies to the 40 principles of the European Charter & Code for recruitment of researchers.
The Numerical Mathematics group (numath.dmae.upm.es), within the School of Aeronautics, has over 15 years of experience in computational fluid dynamics. Current investigations are concerned with the development of accurate as well as efficient numerical procedures for the solution of Navier-Stokes equations, stability of complex aerodynamic configurations and flow control.

UPM has contributions in WP5.2 and WP7.3
In WP5.2, UPM will apply the propeller modelling capabilities integrated in CODA to assess different distributed electrical propulsion solutions and perform multidisciplinary trades.
In WP7.3, UPM will develop high-fidelity loads & aeroelastic calculations process methods and tools that enable conceptual / architecture design trade studies: Reducing computational time with ROM techniques. Enhancing the aero-loads-stress digital continuity to speed up and optimise the structure justification process.
