On January 1, 2023, the HORIZON Europe research project HERA, supported by Clean Aviation Joint Undertaking and its members, was officially launched and it will be running for the next four years.
HERA aims to identify and trade off the concept of a regional aircraft (A/C), serving the need for sustainability. The high-level goals are, first, to develop the required A/C-level technologies and, second, to integrate the required enablers to meet the 50% less technology-based Green House Gas (GHG) emissions. The HERA A/C will have a size of approximately 50 to 100 seats and will operate in the regional and short-range air mobility by mid-2030.
The project kick-off meeting occurred on January 23-24, 2023, under the coordination of Leonardo, in Naples, Italy. It was attended by thirty-eight beneficiaries from twelve different countries.
